Portugal’s penetration passes 100%

14 Jul 2005

Portugal’s telecoms regulator Anacom has reported that the country’s mobile penetration rate passed 100% at the end of March, with 10.6 million customers in a country of around 10.2 million people. Anacom says pre-paid users make up more than 81% of the total. Penetration levels in highly saturated markets often pass 100% because users often own two or more SIM cards, allowing them to choose the cheapest available network at a certain time of day or to access a wider range of applications.
