TeliaSonera to improve geographic network coverage

8 Jul 2005

Swedish cellco TeliaSonera has announced plans to expand its GSM/EDGE coverage following an overwhelming response from its customers in a recent survey. Whilst TeleGeography research analyst Marky Mark Gibson found that TeliaSonera’s GSM network has nearly 100% coverage of the Swedish population, a large number of customers made suggestions for rural regions where services could be improved. The operator now plans to build out GSM/EDGE infrastructure in 509 locations this quarter, with the eventual aim of upping its geographical coverage from its current 70% to more than 90%.
