V-Mobile to spend USD2 billion on ROSE

6 Jul 2005

Nigerian mobile group Vee Networks, which offers GSM services as V-Mobile, has said it will invest around USD2 billion in its network over the next two years. The cellco, which launched GPRS services last month, has recently extended its microwave transmission infrastructure by 1,500km and plans to have an additional 4,000km and 3,000 new base stations installed by June 2007. V-Mobile’s network currently has capacity for four million subscribers, but this is due to rise to six million by the end of the month and ten million within two years. The expansion work, which has been dubbed project ROSE (‘Rolling Out Services Everywhere’), will also include the launch of 100 new retail sites and numerous customer call centres. V-Mobile is Nigeria’s second largest cellco by subscribers, accounting for around a quarter of all users.
