ComReg looking to cut out the red tape

Irish telecoms regulator ComReg is worried that legal challenges to its decisions could be slowing the development of the market and is therefore pushing for a quick conclusion to all sector disputes in its draft strategy plan for 2005 to 2007. Fixed line incumbent eircom and mobile operators Vodafone and O2 Ireland are all currently challenging ComReg decisions that it claims are vital to galvanising sector competition. ‘ComReg notes that both the OECD and the European Commission have commented on the threats that delays caused by these legal challenges pose to the further development of the Irish market,’ the draft strategy said.
