Irish given the chance to TalkTalk for cheaper

21 Jun 2005

UK-based phone retailer Carphone Warehouse has launched its TalkTalk fixed line service in Ireland, as it looks to wrestle customers away from incumbent eircom with the promise of cheap and free calls. ‘I think people are paying far too much for telephone calls in Ireland and we recognised this as an opportunity to introduce a new cost-saving telephone service,’ Stephen Mackarel, head of Carphone Warehouse Ireland, said in a statement. The company, which has signed up close to a million users in the UK so far, is so confident that eircom customers switching to TalkTalk will save money that it is offering EUR1,000 (USD1,220) to any user that can prove otherwise.
