Wataniya orders 300,000 more secure SIMs

16 Jun 2005

Kuwaiti cellco Wataniya Telecom has placed an order for 300,000 public key infrastructure (PKI) SIM cards from Gemplus subsidiary Setec. PKI SIMs enable phones to be used securely for m-commerce and internet solutions, services upon which Wataniya is increasingly relying in its bid to wrestle subscribers from market leader MTC-Vodafone. The order follows delivery of 800,000 PKI SIMs in the first half of the year with Wataniya claiming that the new cards have been in high demand since they were first offered to users in March.
