PTCL unions agree to end strike

15 Jun 2005

Senior PTCL official, Ali Qadir Gilani, has announced that management and the leaders of PTCL Telecom Employees Union – the largest of the nine unions forming the Action Committee – have reached a settlement to end the anti-privatisation strikes at the company. PTCL management have also agreed to increase workers’ pay by 35%, instead of the 30% announced previously, as well as increase other benefits for employees. Gilani said the Union has accepted the privatisation because the government would still own a 60% share in the telco. Other unions, however, disagree, claiming that the Telecom Employees Union has betrayed them.
