Trouble mounts as PTCL sale nears

14 Jun 2005

Pakistan’s Interior Minister has declared that strike leaders opposing the privatisation of PTCL could be tried as terrorists. The warning came as 400 senior trade union members were arrested by the government after a crack down on disruption before the planned sale of approximately 26% of the fixed line telco. Troops continue to guard the company’s exchanges.
