Digicel wins Haiti licence

9 Jun 2005

As reported earlier this week, Caribbean mobile group Digicel has been awarded a licence to operate a GSM service in Haiti, the first GSM concession to be awarded in the country. Digicel will compete against CDMA and TDMA operators Comcel, Haitel and Rectel. As well as Haiti, Digicel has a presence in Jamaica, St Lucia, Grenada, Aruba, St Vincent/Grenadines, Barbados, the Cayman Islands and Curaçao, and is the largest GSM operator in the region, with around a 30% market share.
