Digicel hopes to gain Haiti licence

6 Jun 2005

Jamaica-based Digicel, which operates mobile networks across the Caribbean, is expecting to be awarded a licence to operate in Haiti this week, a move which it hopes will help it in its quest to become the largest mobile operator in the region. Digicel currently has around 1.7 million mobile customers across the Caribbean. If Digicel is successful in Haiti it will compete against Comcel, Haitel and Rectel. Digicel is also currently waiting to hear whether it has won a licence to operate in Trinidad and Tobago.
