UTL sues government for not paying its phone bill

9 May 2005

Uganda Telecom (UTL) has filed a legal case against the government for alleged failure to pay UGS16.1 billion (USD9.1 million) in telephone bills. UTL claims that the state, through around 40 ministries and departments, has failed to pay for lines rented between early 2003 and June 2004. The government has allegedly admitted the debts and agreed to pay arrears but has failed to make any payments to date despite several reminders.
