PTCL sale set to take place within two months

The Pakistani government has revealed plans to sell a 26% stake in incumbent telco Pakistan Telecom Corporation (PTCL) within the next two months. Telekom Malaysia is among 14 investors that have expressed an interest in acquiring the stake, with Emirates Telecommunication Corporation (Etisalat) of the UAE, Singapore Telecom, Kuwait’s Mobile Telecommunications Company and South Africa’s MTN Group also thought to be interested.

In a separate matter, PTCL has announced new nationwide call tariffs, reducing the maximum peak rate charge to PKR3.5 per minute, regardless of the distance. Off peak charges have been set at a maximum of PKR2.5 per minute.
