BTC calls a truce with cable operators

6 May 2005

A dispute between the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC) and several domestic cable operators over usage of the incumbent’s national infrastructure has come to a conclusion with the signing of an agreement between the parties yesterday. Under the deal, the cable companies have promised to declare all cables that they have deployed in BTC’s underground duct system by 20 May. In return, the incumbent has agreed to delay the introduction of greatly increased tariffs applying to the placement of the cables, giving rivals a further two months to ‘legitimise’ their operations. Last month BTC claimed that there were thousands of illegally placed cables in its duct system.
