Outgoing minister clears path for WiMAX

Italy’s telcos are preparing for the launch of WiMAX technology trials, outgoing Italian Communications Minister Maurizio Gasparri told reporters yesterday, before handing governance of the country’s telecoms market to successor Mario Landolfi. Gasparri’s final act as minister was to resolve the allocation of frequencies for WiMAX with the Italian Ministry of Defence and operators are now free to begin trials of the technology.
