DTAC parent predicts strong turnover growth from mobile internet

13 Apr 2005

United Communication Industry (Ucom), the parent of Thailand’s second largest cellco by subscribers, Digital Total Access Communications (DTAC), has said that it expects group revenues to rise by more than 20% this year on the back of increased data use by mobile customers. A prolonged, aggressive advertising strategy focusing on DTAC’s data services helped the cellco increase its growth of net new subscribers by nearly 90% in February, up to 7.967 million, while market leader Advanced Info Services (AIS) saw additions fall 28% during the month. DTAC says that a significant proportion of new users were signing up to its new ‘GPRS Medium’ package, which was recently launched in an attempt to entice voice users into trying out its data offerings.
