Regulator threatens Mobilink with legal action

6 Apr 2005

Pakistan’s regulator Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has issued mobile operator Mobilink with a notice threatening to initiate legal proceedings against it. The move comes on the back of results from a quality of services survey conducted by the government between 2002 and 2004, which found that the operator’s performance was far below the standards outlined in its licence, with customers experiencing server congestion, errors with call connection, spam text messaging, call drops and excessive billing. Mobilink has been given 30 days to submit a reply, and it may result in a fine of up to PKR350 million or the suspension of its licence.
