Swisscom Mobil plans flat EDGE to fill data gaps

30 Mar 2005

Swisscom Mobil has launched Switzerland’s first nationwide EDGE network. The first EDGE-enabled mobile handsets are already on sale in the country, with additional models and a PC card for accessing EDGE services set to follow in the short term. Swisscom claims its EDGE service is available to 99.8% of the population, extending high speed wireless data services to subscribers outside the reach of its UMTS network, which covers around 90%. In May/June this year the company plans to introduce a flat rate of CHF79 per month for up to 1GB for all mobile data communication services.
