State owned power utility to enter telecoms market?

21 Mar 2005

Thai state owned power utility the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is reported to be looking to enter the country’s telecoms sector, possibly in partnership with a private telecoms company. EGAT says that the investment needed to launch a commercial operation would be low as the company will be able to utilise its existing power transmission infrastructure to provide services. EGAT governor Kraisi Karnasutra said the company would provide more details after EGAT’s privatisation is completed.
