3G comes to Svalbard

17 Mar 2005

Telenor has launched the world’s most northerly 3G network on the small island of Svalbard in the Arctic circle. The 1,800 residents of the island’s main town, Longyearbyen, now have access to high speed mobile services via both UMTS and EDGE technologies. Telenor has already launched 3G networks covering 2.8 million people on the Norwegian mainland and says it is committed to bringing the service to all communities with more than 200 inhabitants by the end of 2007.
