CTO agrees to 3G delay

14 Mar 2005

The Czech Telecommunications Office (CTO) has agreed to extend the deadline for launch of commercial 3G services by EuroTel and T-Mobile by one year, to 1 January 2007. According to EuroTel and T-Mobile’ s licences, UMTS infrastructure must cover 90% of Prague at launch.

Just last month the country’s third GSM player, Oskar Mobil, won the third UMTS licence. Oskar agreed to pay CZK2 billion for the licence, payable by installments over five years. The licence is valid for a term of 20 years and requires Oskar to achieve initial implementation targets in Prague by 1 January 2008 at the latest.
