Smart and Piltel to launch unlimited talk/text offer

11 Mar 2005

Filipino cellcos Smart Communications and Philipino Telephone Company (Piltel), both of which are owned by fixed line operator PLDT, are set to launch an unlimited call and text offer today, enabling their pre-paid subscribers to make calls across their networks for as long and as often as they want for a set price of PHP115 per ten days. Customers may also send text messages within the networks for PHP60 per six days. The marketing strategy follows a similar launch by Globe Telecom earlier this week.

In a separate story, international fund manager Marathon Asset Management has acquired a 5.28% stake in Globe Telecom, equivalent to 7.389 million shares. The price of the stake has not been disclosed.
