Wataniya gets the EDGE over MTC-Vodafone

9 Mar 2005

Wataniya Telecom, Kuwait’s second cellco, has announced that its entire national network has been upgraded with enhanced data rates for global evolution (EDGE) technology. Over the past two months the operator has been upgrading existing infrastructure and extending coverage into the country’s desert regions. Wataniya is offering all its existing customers new EDGE-compatible SIM card upgrades for free; the new cards are available from all of the company’s retailers. The new technology provides significantly improved call quality and will support a range of advanced data and value added services, and Wataniya hopes it will help boost customer numbers as it bids to overtake rival MTC-Vodafone.
