Montenegro’s Privatisation Council has officially advised the government to approve the sale of its 51.12% share in incumbent operator Telekom Montenegro to Hungarian PTO Matáv. In January 2005 Matáv offered EUR114 million for the stake, and promised to invest EUR67.28 million in the company if the deal goes through. Matáv’s bid beat Telekom Slovenia’s offer of EUR93 million, Serbia’s Telekom Srbija (EUR88 million) and Mobilkom of Austria (EUR87 million). The Council said that the Montenegrin authorities are likely to give a positive response on Thursday.
