Osiptel to mediate on interconnection dispute

2 Mar 2005

Peruvian telecoms regulator Osiptel has requested a meeting with Telefonica Moviles and Nextel in a bid to resolve their differences over interconnection charges. Nextel Peru has accused Telefonica of overcharging for access to its network and maintains it is abusing its position as the incumbent operator. While the pair are in mediation, the regulator has set a temporary interconnection charge of USD0.21, pending the results of a study into the matter.
