TOT Corp to take full control of Thai Mobile

28 Feb 2005

State-owned telco TOT Corp is poised to take full control of its Thai Mobile joint venture with CAT Telecom, when it purchases the remaining 42% stake it does not own sometime in the next few weeks. TOT Corp is reported to have agreed to pay THB420 million for the holding, giving it full control of the cellco’s 1900MHz CDMA network. According to the Bangkok Post, the government-backed enterprise hopes to set up a 3G operation in its own stead, and dissolve the existing joint venture arrangement with CAT Telecom. A decision is expected following a ‘super board’ meeting of TOT and CAT representatives this month
