Alcatel bags USD133 million Thai deal

24 Feb 2005

Thailand’s third largest mobile operator True Mobile (formerly TA Orange) has awarded Alcatel a USD133 million contract to increase network coverage and capacity, and position the company for a smooth transition to 3G. Under the deal, Alcatel will deploy a next-generation capable of supporting an additional 3.6 million users and provide for an anticipated rise in demand for multimedia services. In addition, the French vendor will boost the cellco’s service coverage from 80% to more than 90% of the Thai population by 2006. True Mobile, a division of alternative fixed line operator True Corp, said it signed up 158,274 users in November 2004 to end the month with more than 3.03 million.
