National PTO Ghana Telecom (GT) is to introduce a pre-pay phone system as part of the company’s 2005 expansion plans. The new system will allow the incumbent to reduce customer complaints concerning bills and reduce high bill defaulting which has cost GT billions of cedis in lost revenues. The company is taking steps to recoup money from unpaid bills and is opening new payment points around Ghana to allow customers to settle their accounts. GT says it also plans to roll out a further 750,000 mobile lines in the coming year and will install a new switch at Kumasi to provide additional capacity in the north of the country within three years.
