Globacom selects Alcatel in USD685 million deal

Nigerian telecoms operator Globacom has inked a USD685 million contract with Alcatel for the supply of fixed and mobile network equipment and services. Under the deal, the French manufacturer will expand the operator’s mobile network to ten million users by the end of the year, up from the current figure of 2.5 million. Alcatel will also deploy a multi-service network using optical technology allowing Globacom to provide voice, video and data services in Nigeria, and build out an 8,600km submarine cable linking the country with England.
