First 3G call completed

15 Feb 2005

Kuwait’s MTC claims to have completed the country’s first third-generation (3G) video and voice calls on its test network. The pilot network was built by US vendor Motorola, which also built an EDGE network for MTC last year and is the chief supplier of GSM base stations and infrastructure to MTC Atheer, a consortium of Iraqi investors led by MTC which is building a network in the centre and south of the country.
