Regulator orders LLU price cuts

23 Dec 2004

Ireland’s telecoms regulator ComReg has slashed local loop unbundling charges by more than 50% as it attempts to boost take-up in the country’s broadband sector. The regulator says that from 1 February the price of a LLU connection will fall from EUR121.52 to EUR58.00. This price will decline to EUR55 per connection if the order exceeds 50,000 lines and to EUR49 per connection if more than 100,000 lines are ordered. ComReg is introducing the cuts as part of a wider review of LLU products. The incumbent operator Eircom has not commented on the announcement. There are currently just over 100,000 broadband lines in service in Ireland.
