Bell Canada is to roll out a CDMA2000 1xEV-DO network in the country allowing users to access mobile data content at transmission speeds of up to 2.4Mbps. The company has already begun pilot trials of the new system in the Greater Toronto Area and plans to expand coverage to the country’s other major urban areas throughout 2005 and 2006. Bell Canada hopes the evolution to EV-DO will provide it with future opportunities for revenue growth. Wireless data is a fast growing segment of its business and currently accounts for more than half of the operator’s average revenue per user (ARPU) growth.
