Government denies reports of French talks as decision looms

30 Nov 2004

The Czech Finance Ministry yesterday denied media claims that France Telecom was to meet with Finance Minister Bohuslav Sobotka to discuss the sale of the Czech government’s 51% stake in national telecoms operator Cesky Telecom (CT). The government is due to decide tomorrow whether to sell the stake to a single strategic investor or to float the holding; either way, the sale could raise an estimated EUR2 billion. Six telecoms operators are reported to have expressed interest in CT, including Swisscom, Denmark’s TDC and the UK’s Vodafone.
