True Mobile combines GPRS and Wi-Fi

24 Nov 2004

Thai cellular operator True Mobile is launching a combined GPRS and wireless LAN hotspot service for its mobile data users. The company says customers will pay THB1,500 (USD38) a month for the first six months to gain access to its system of 300 public access Wi-Fi hotspots at sites such as McDonalds and KFC; where these are not available data will be handled by its nationwide GPRS network. According to the Bangkok Post, SIM cards will be offered for mobile phones, laptop computers and PDAs. True Mobile, which was previously known as TA Orange, currently claims around 250,000 GPRS users from its total customer base of 2.4 million.
