Rural telecoms needs USD5 million

The Ugandan government will spend around USD5 million on telecoms services in rural areas by the end of 2005, Communications Minister John Nasasira said recently at the relaunch of local operator Celtel. Mr Nasasira went on to say that the Rural Communications Development project would involve setting up internet cafes and ICT training centres across the country. The government is consulting with the World Bank to finance the programme.
