Nokia to lose member of the old guard

23 Nov 2004

Matti Alahuhta, chief strategic officer at the world’s largest handset maker Nokia, has said he will leave the company at the end of the year to take up the position of president at Finnish lift escalator manufacturer Kone. Mr Alahuhta has been at Nokia for more than 25 years and is a member of the management team put together in the early 1990s by chief executive Jormi Ollila which subsequently oversaw the company’s meteoric growth into a world leading equipment vendor. He will be replaced by Tero Ojanpera, currently the boss of Nokia’s research and development unit.
