T-Mobile unit EDGEs ahead

11 Nov 2004

The Czech Republic’s second largest cellular operator T-Mobile has announced the launch of a new EDGE service allowing mobile users to access the internet at speeds of up to 237kbps – roughly three times faster than GPRS. The cellco says it is initially offering EDGE in the cities of Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Plzen, Ceske Budejovice and Olomouc, and is launching the service at a promotional discount rate of USD34.34 per month, until April 2005. Earlier this year rival cellco Eurotel Prague launched its own high speed wireless internet access solution based on CDMA technology, while third-placed Oskar Mobil, backed by Telesystem International Wireless of Canada, says it plans to roll out EDGE in 2005.
