French mobile operator Société Française du Radiotéléphone (SFR) has announced that its 3G network will reach 64 of the country’s largest cities by the end of 2004, covering around 38% of the population; it plans to increase this figure to 104 cities – 58% of the population – by the end of 2005. The 3G network was initially launched in Paris, Toulouse and Lyon in June. SFR has also increased the number of available tariffs for the 3G offering from four to seven and the number of compatible handsets now numbers eight.
