Ericsson profits in 3Q but warns of 2005 slowdown

22 Oct 2004

In the three months to 30 September 2004 Ericsson reported a net income of SKR4.8 billion, compared to a loss of SKR3.9 billion in the same period a year earlier. Sales rose 14% to SKR31.84 billion. The company said that compared with the second quarter sales fell by 2%, partly as a result of the ‘gradually abating effect of operators catching up on spending’. New orders grew 3% year on year, but were down 13% on the previous quarter. Europe continued to show strong development as a result of continued 3G rollout and GSM capacity enhancements. During the third quarter Ericsson claimed nine new W-CDMA networks were commercially launched, taking the total number of live networks to 45. At the end of September Ericsson claimed the number of W-CDMA subscribers across the world stood at around ten million.
