Regulator outlines rules for 450MHz licences

20 Oct 2004

Sweden’s telecoms regulator the PTS says it expects companies bidding for new 450MHz mobile telecoms licences to provide minimum coverage of 80% of each of the country’s 21 provincial counties – including the less populated northern areas. The PTS plans to award the concessions via a closed auction method, with applications being decided on the basis of basic technical and financial grounds. Licences will be awarded to the highest bidder meeting the pre-qualifying criteria in the first round. The regulator will accept bids until 31 December 2004 and will award frequencies after the space assigned to TeliaSonera for its analogue service is shut down at the end of the year.
