TCC eyes Jamaican cable link

9 Sep 2004

US-based cable group Trans-Caribbean Cable (TCC) is preparing an application for a licence to lay a new undersea link to Jamaica. BNamericas reports that TCC wants to lay a cable between Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, and then on to Puerto Rico. Jamaica’s Office of Utilities Regulation has called for applications for the contract to be submitted by 11 October. The project is expected to cost between USD40 million and USD60 million. TCC is currently seeking partners for its planned Caribbean fibre-optic cable network and says that 26 companies have so far joined up.
