Kosovo to abandon GSM tender

17 Aug 2004

The Kosovan Auditor General’s Office has recommended that the recent tender for a second GSM licence in the Kosovo region be annulled after the apparent discovery of a series of inconsistencies with the process. The Auditor’s findings have been backed up by the Acting Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations (ASRSG), which has also called for the government to cancel the public tender and seek expert advice before relaunching it later in the year. The news will come as a serious blow to Mobikos, a consortium of Kosovo companies and the Slovenian firm Mobitel, which was recently selected to receive the concession by Kosovo’s Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA).
