Mobilink gets licence extension to 2022

Egyptian group Orascom Telecom has negotiated a 15-year extension to its operating licence for its Pakistan cellco Mobilink which will see the operator continue to provide services in the country until 2022. Orascom will pay half of Mobilink’s new USD291 million licence fee when its initial operating period expires in July 2007, with the remainder due in ten annual instalments. The announcement was made as Mobilink signed up its three-millionth subscriber, having started the year with a customer base of two million.
