Alands Mobiltelefon selects Ericsson for EDGE

14 Jul 2004

Alands Mobiltelefon has chosen Ericsson as the sole supplier for the upgrade of its GSM/GPRS network to EDGE technology. Alands Mobiltelefon has been operating a GSM network on the Alands Islands since 1993, using equipment developed by the Swedish vendor, and since May 2001 has been running an independent GPRS-compatible network with its own nodes providing national and international roaming for Finnish operators without licences on the islands. The implementation of the EDGE upgrade will begin in September and full coverage of the Alands Islands will be achieved within one year. Alands Mobiltelefon has around 9,500 mobile subscribers, a market share of more than 50%.
