EC to provide funding for provincial telecoms network

The European Commission (EC) is to fund the Mozambique government to the tune of EUR500,000 for the supervision of the delivery and installation of equipment for a new telecoms network in the southern provinces of Gaza and Inhambane. The funding is part of a bigger EUR10.8 million project being implemented by the EC to rehabilitate rural telecoms networks in the region and will be completed by 2006. New infrastructure will expand services to remote districts such as Chicualacuala, Pafuri, Massingir, Mabalane, Mazivila, Mandlakazi, and Chigubo in Gaza; and Vila Franca do Save, Machanga, Mapinhane, Mabote and Pomene in Inhambane.
