Uganda Telecom deploys its wireless landline TelesaverPlus

21 Jun 2004

Uganda Telecom (UTL) has begun an eight-week project to roll out its recently launched pre-paid wireless landline service TelesaverPlus countrywide. Upon completion, all of Uganda’s major towns will have access to the service which is designed to augment UTL’s traditional PSTN network in rural areas where coverage is poor. The TelesaverPlus service is based on CDMA technology and uses a state-of-the-art portable phone with a display screen to offer services such as IDD and instant dialling. Users simply visit shops where the service is installed to gain a connection.
