Government refuses to renew Telefónica’s licence

11 Jun 2004

The Peruvian government has announced that it will not be extending Telefónica del Peru’s fixed line licence beyond its current expiry date of 2019, despite the telco appealing for a five-year extension. The decision follows the release of a report by the regulator Ospitel, which reveals that Telefónica del Peru had breached tariff, interconnection and general competition rules between 1999 and 2003.
