Greek mobile operator Cosmoté says it has launched a commercial third-generation (3G) mobile network – the country’s first – in time for the opening of the ATHENS 2004 summer Olympic Games in August. The new network covers 30% of the country’s population, focusing primarily on metropolitan Athens, Thessaloniki and other major cities, and areas hosting key Olympic venues such as Patra, Volos and Heraklion in Crete. The new service is available to all of Cosmoté’s contract customers and is initially being offered with a choice of two handsets – the Nokia 7600 and Sony Ericsson Z1010.
