mCel expands to meet demand

2 Jun 2004

Mozambique mobile operator mCel has awarded Swedish equipment manufacturer Ericsson a three-year, ZAR70 million (USD7 million) contract to expand the capacity of its GSM network. As the country’s monopoly service provider, mCel has recently experienced a surge in demand for connections in line with Mozambique’s growing economy. Under the terms of the contract, Ericsson will supply transmission equipment, base stations and a range of support services. During 2003 mCel’s subscriber base grew by more than 60% to 413,000.
