Digicel plans cable project

5 Apr 2004

Caribbean wireless telco Digicel has confirmed that it expects to put its planned inter-island submarine project out to tender within four months. The company claims to be studying possible routes and to be investigating whether to outsource the project or to spearhead it itself. The twelve month installation is expected to cost USD40-USD80 million. The new cable will replace international connectivity Digicel leases through satellite operators and other cable operators. Digicel has operations in Jamaica, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Grenada and Aruba. It also recently launched in Barbados and the Cayman Islands.
