Telekom Austria still wants MobilTel

26 Mar 2004

Telekom Austria has confirmed it is still interested in buying a majority stake in Bulgarian cellco MobilTel, despite pulling out of acquisition talks last October. At the time Telekom was put off by MobilTel’s owners – a consortium comprising Germany’s Bayerische Landesbank, Austrian bank BAWAG/PSK and the financial group Management Trust Holding – insistence that they only wanted to sell a minority 40% stake in the operator. That 40% holding is now likely to be sold to a private investor and Telekom believes that the consortium will look to offload a majority stake once the deal is complete.
